PRAL Positioned to Lead Implementation of Pakistan's Track & Trace System?
In the ongoing effort to modernize and digitize Pakistan's Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the role of Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) is becoming increasingly significant. During the second meeting of the Task Force on Digitalization of the FBR, chaired by State Minister for Finance Ali Pervez Malik, the focus was placed on leveraging PRAL's capabilities to optimize the Track & Trace System (TTS). This system is critical for enhancing supply chain transparency and tax compliance across various sectors.
PRAL's potential involvement in the TTS comes amid broader efforts to revamp FBR into a modern, data-driven organization. The task force, which includes members from NADRA and industry leaders, has been developing a roadmap for transforming FBR’s operations. Key recommendations include restructuring PRAL to improve its governance, technology, and operational efficiency, as highlighted in a presentation by Asif Peer from Systems Ltd.
Dr. Javed Ashraf of NADRA emphasized the importance of data integration for identifying potential taxpayers, while Ms. Tania Aidrus discussed the challenges in capturing accurate trade data through existing systems like WeBOC and Pakistan Single Window.
Given these discussions, PRAL’s role in the TTS could be pivotal. The TTS is designed to ensure that taxes are accurately collected by monitoring the production and distribution of goods, thereby reducing tax evasion. With PRAL’s enhanced capabilities, the TTS could become more effective, making it a cornerstone of Pakistan’s digitalized tax infrastructure.
